If you’ve lived in Southern Idaho for any length of time, you have likely had the pleasure of stopping for coffee and pie, lunch or dinner at the historic Oxbow Cafe right off the freeway in Bliss ID. This local restaurant used to be a favorite stop for travellers, truckers and locals alike as the highway to / from Boise ID passed right through the city of Bliss. Things change and scenic highways and biways were passed by in lieu of speedier Interstate freeways – which was the case near Bliss. The loss of through traffic affected several small businesses in Bliss. The Oxbow Cafe finally closed, sitting vacant till recently, when the team of Bill Jones and Leslie Jones had the vision of re-opening this wonderful throw-back to more relaxed days of travel, homey diner atmosphere, and delicious homecooked foods. The old Oxbow Cafe has now been given new life and a new name – the new Oxbow Diner. Their hours are below:
Closed Currently on Mondays
Tue-Thu: 6:00 am – 9:00 pm
Fri-Sat: 6:00 am – 10:00 pm
Sun: 6:00 am – 9:00 pm
Here are two photos that speak to the kind of ‘service’ that’s second nature for Bill, Leslie and their staff. Waitress, Karli earned this lovely note from a customer at the Diner and Nikki received this amazing tip which will help with her college dreams. Their staff do it ‘right’!
Post from the owners of Oxbow Diner on Facebook: “I’ve always heard stories of the amazing people that leave really large tips to their waitresses for various reasons, but I’ve never witnessed it, until today. Our very own Nikki received a $105.00 tip to go towards her college fund. Congratulations sweetie! You deserve it! You are now $100 closer to that archeological degree!! I am truly amazed by the generosity of people. Thank you kind couple. You have truly made our day.”
